Pastor's Sermon Notes

Judah will be taken captive, but when it gets low Isaiah always brings up the Messiah. He does
so again. Good news is immediately release from captivity in Babylon, ultimately in the Gospel
itself.
Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth
peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy
God reigneth!

Similar thought repeated in Nahum 1:15. Beautiful--handsome, pleasing. Only applies to those
who proclaim good news, peace, and salvation. And these things only if they are summed up in
the reign of God. Any other peace, good news or salvation is not real. For a besieged city, it is
a relief, a beautiful thing, to see someone come with good news.
Isaiah 52:14,15
As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form
more than the sons of men: 15So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths
at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard
shall they consider.

Astonied--astonished to the point of silence. Visage--the visible part of him, the flesh body.
Marred--disfigured. So much so it was hard to recognize Him as human.
Not necessarily only referring to the Cross.
This is all the more tragic when we consider that this was the body God had prepared for Him--
Hebrews 10:5--not sacrifice but a body you have prepared for me.
Men will be stunned into silence upon seeing him, even kings. Yet it is He who sprinkles--cleans
and purifies by His blood and His word--all nations. They have never heard words like this, but
it is good news so they will consider [observe or understand] it!

Contrast between the beauty of those who speak about one who is ugly
Romans 10:9-13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth
unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no
difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call
upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Salvation is dependent upon a response, you must call on the Lord, believe in your heart and
confess Him with your mouth.

Romans 10:14-17
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in
him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of
them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16But they have not
all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17So then faith
cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In order to call on Him they must know he is there. The kings who heard nothing of Him will be
astonished when they hear. The way they’re told is by the ones who know Him.
Romans 9 and 11 about election--this is the security.
Ephesians 6:15
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Romans 3:15-17
Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17And the way
of peace have they not known:

We, by nature, have ugly feet. Only a work of God can turn our ugly feet that lead us to sin into
beautiful feet that lead others to Christ. It’s all wrapped up in the Gospel of Peace.
Hebrews 12:12-14
Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13And make straight paths
for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Our feet need healing. Healed feet follow peace and holiness and you need this to see God. Let
God be your podiatrist.
