| February 21, 2010 Isaiah 54--Jerusalem is about to be wiped out, but don’t fear, Jerusalem will be full again Isaiah 54:1-3 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. 2Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; Here we see no hope, life is gone. But God will intervene and crate children where there were no children. Soon they will have to expand the boundaries to fit in all the people. God is in charge of the restoration because He was in charge of the dispersal! Isaiah 54:7,8 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. God is merciful, wants to show mercy, that’s why He allowed sin to begin with. By judging their sin He now will put on a display of His forgiveness and mercy. If God is not in charge of the judgment He can’t be in charge of the salvation! Galatians 4:21-23 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? 22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. 23But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Abraham had a kid with Hagar named Ishmael. This is not the son that God promised. Ishmael was produced through natural means, Isaac was born by an act of God. Galatians 4:24-26 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. 25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. 26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. All this was a picture of two covenants--Hagar is The Mosaic Law given on Mount Sinai, creating bondage that created little, abused earthly Jerusalem. Sara represents heavenly Jerusalem, all believers born of faith and are free in the New Covenant in Jesus Christ Galatians 4:27-28 27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. 28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. The children of promise, crated by God, far outnumber the children made in natural ways through Hagar. Everyone who is saved is like Isaac and Abraham is our father. So we are free, but life is not all fun and games! Galatians 4:29-31 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. 30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. 31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. The son of the flesh, Ishmael, hates the son of promise, Isaac. The flesh hates the spirit, but there is an answer--cast off the bondage, the bondwoman and her fleshly son! Be free! Galatians 5:1-3 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. We have been set free from bondage, released from the law that stirred up sin in us and kept us in bondage. If you dabble in law, you have to keep all of it. This, however, does not mean that saved people don’t have anything to do with God’s Law Galatians 5:13,14 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. We now are to love one another, which keeps the whole law! How does this happen? Is it by works? No, it is by faith Galatians 5:5,6 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which works by love. All of our provision is by faith. It’s by faith and faith WORKS by love, faith produces love, and love fulfills the Law. You can’t do it by works, it’s impossible, the Law concludes all under sin. But faith makes us free, births us new by faith and Promise and sets us free. Use that freedom to by faith fulfill the law with love. |
