| February 28, 2010 55:1-3 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. 3Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Don’t spend your money on temporal things, but on spiritual provision. Don’t eat the food that parishes, but every word from the mouth of God. What God offers is FREE and SATISFYING. There is such a thing as a free lunch. Vs. 4,5--nations will be saved through Israel, through David’s covenant fulfilled in Christ. Isaiah 55:6-9 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. A call to repentance goes along with the command to seek the Lord. IF you seek Him, you can’ t be seeking what is opposite of Him. God’s ways are higher than ours, seek His ways, not ours! He’s smarter than we are so we should stop doing our junk and do His.. Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. we all know the cycle of water and the seasons, so to should we be assured that God’s plan for Israel will go as He said. Vs. 12-13--God will restore Israel and life will be great. What’s the application? Know God’s Word? like pal knew how to fish from magazines? John 5:38-40--There is a danger that we settle for the word and not the point: And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. Knowledge puffs up, even God’s knowledge. We must not know scripture for the sake of knowing. Satan knows scripture better than us. Makes no difference--know the point John 6:33-35 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Knowing Scripture does not save; coming to Christ does. Christ is the point of Scripture, He is the Word. If you have Christ you will not hunger or thirst, you will fulfill Isaiah 55. After explaining the “eat my flesh, drink my blood” bit. It doesn’t go over well. John 6:67-68 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. The Bible contains the words of life. The flip point is not “let’s be stupid about the Bible.” The flip point is: knowing the Bible means knowing Christ and ALL He said. 2 Timothy 2:15 Paul then warns about guys who twist the truth--Hymenaus and Philetus 2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. The foundation is sure, because it’s Christ and His Word, it’s always there and God does what He says so we should do what He says--not iniquity. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:13-17 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. |
