Pastor's Sermon Notes

Jeremiah 4:22
For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish (ESV--“stupid“) children,
and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no
knowledge.
Romans 16:19--I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.”
These people have it backwards and are miserable because of it.
Jeremiah 5:1
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the
broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh
the truth; and I will pardon it.
If just one righteous man was found it would be spared. What about Jeremiah?! They have left
God with no choice but to judge them. Sodom would have been spared for 10!
Jeremiah 5:12-14
They have belied [denied] the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us;
neither shall we see sword nor famine: 13And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is
not in them: thus shall it be done unto them. 14Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts,
Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people
wood, and it shall devour them.
The people doubt God will do anything, they think prophets just make stuff up. But this is God’
s Word and it’s about to burn them up. God will only speak to the prophet, not to these wicked
people.
Jeremiah 5:21-23
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not;
which have ears, and hear not: 22Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my
presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it
cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though
they roar, yet can they not pass over it? 23But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious
heart; they are revolted and gone.
They do not fear God, that is why they do not listen to Him. God uses little things like grains of
sand to withstand the ocean, water obeys better than people with eyes and ears
Jeremiah 5:29-31
Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation
as this? 30A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; 31The prophets prophesy
falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will
ye do in the end thereof?
God has to judge, there is no alternative. But the people listen to false prophets, and take the
good news they made up over God’s Word. Sure, this is more enjoyable for the time, but what
about the end of it?
Don’t play games with God’s Word. Hear all of it. You can pretend certain words are not
there, but they are and God meant them.
2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers
among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought
them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious
ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness
shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time
lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
False prophets are in it for the cash. They deny the Lord that bought them, the one who is their
Master, because they want to be your master!--They deny the Lord
1 John 4:1-3
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false
prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that
confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesses not
that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye
have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Antichrist is not a future concern, he is a concern right now as he is already at work. The
deception has begun and will only grow stronger, so much so that if it were possible even the
elect would buy into it.
2 Timothy 4:1-4
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and
the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of
season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves
teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be
turned unto fables.
People will listen to those who grease the skids for their fleshly desires. They will want their ears
tickled with happy messages and license to live after the flesh.
