Pastor's Sermon Notes
The battery on the recorder died during this sermon so there is no audio. Which is a bummer
because this was one of the best sermons ever.

Jeremiah 26--Jeremiah says Jerusalem will be judged
Jeremiah 26:8,9
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had
commanded him to speak to the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people
took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die. Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD,
saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And
all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
The guise of religion keeps people from hearing God. The message is denied and the religious
leaders lead the way
Jeremiah 26:11
Then spake the priests and prophets unto the princes and to the people, saying, This man is
worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
“If you are against our sacred places and things, then you are against God” is the rationale
Jeremiah 26:12-15
Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to
prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard. 13Therefore
now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the
LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you. 14As for me, behold, I
am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you. 15But know ye for certain,
that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this
city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak
all these words in your ears.
Two choices: hear God and He will not judge you or keep it up until judgment. Jeremiah has
nothing to lose, he did what God said.
Jeremiah 26:16
Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not
worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
The people defend the prophet to the religious leaders.
Jeremiah 16:17-19
Then rose up certain elders of the land, and spake to the assembly of the people, saying, Micah
the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of
Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem
shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest. Did Hezekiah
king of Judah and Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the
LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus
might we procure great evil against our souls.
Incredibly enough, the elders consult Scripture! Micah said the same thing and no one killed
him! What Jeremiah said might actually help us and work.
There is a long history of men calling on people to listen to God. The message is often denied
with religious rationale to prove it, but what saith the Scriptures? That is the final test. God does
what He says, so listen to what He says!
“it is written” 80 times. One of the reasons it is written is so that we don’t argue over it.
Romans 10:8-21
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of
faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the
heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, Whoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:14-21
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in
him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall
they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach
the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the
gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went
into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. But I say, Did not Israel know?
First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish
nation I will anger you. But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me
not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith, All day long I
have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
Romans 11:1-6
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed
of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew.
Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel
saying, Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone,
and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself
seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at this
present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it
no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more
grace: otherwise work is no more work.
