Pastor's Sermon Notes

Jeremiah 24--parable of figs--a bad and a good basket of figs. The good represents faithful
Israel being restored and the bad represents wicked Israel who will be judged because they did
not go to Babylon but stayed in the land or went to Egypt, you can’t use bad fruit.
Jeremiah 24:6,7
For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will
build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people,
and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

The good fruit is handled well. Believing Israel will get God’s favor and a new heart that belongs
solely to God. Kingdom fulfillment
Jeremiah 25:4,5
And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them;
but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. 5They said, Turn ye again now every
one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD
hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever

The prophets continue to call Israel to faith, to be good fruit, so they can enjoy the promises of
their covenant with God.
Jeremiah 25:11--but Israel has not listened
And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the
king of Babylon seventy years.

The captivity of the land will last 70 years. Daniel brings them up in Daniel 9:2, 24. At the end
of the 70 weeks Ezra and Nehemiah return to rebuild Jerusalem.
25:12--Babylon is used to judge Israel, but will get judgment next. Nations will consume them
and then God will judge them all! There is no “good fruit” nation on earth!
Jeremiah 25:15,16
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and
cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.16And they shall drink, and be moved,
and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

Jeremiah 25:18-26--lists all the nations God will judge.
Jeremiah 25:32,33
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great
whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. 33And the slain of the LORD shall be
at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be
lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

This is ultimately fulfilled during the Tribulation period.
Jeremiah 25:35-38
And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. 36A voice
of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the
LORD hath spoiled their pasture. 37And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the
fierce anger of the LORD. 38He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate
because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

The Lion will come out and eat up the disobedient sheep and their shepherds. There will be no
peaceable place for them to flee to.
Revelation 16:19
And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great
Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the
fierceness of his wrath.
Revelation 18:1-3
And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and
the earth was lightened with his glory. 2And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying,
Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every
foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 3For all nations have drunk of the wine
of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her,
and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Babylon shows up again at The End, and all nations will be punished with her. God’s anger is
poured out on all unbelieving remnants on earth.
1 Thessalonians 5:2-11
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as
travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4But ye, brethren, are not in
darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5Ye are all the children of light, and the
children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6Therefore let us not sleep, as do
others; but let us watch and be sober. 7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be
drunken are drunken in the night. 8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the
breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
